A Georgian townhouse built as a speculation by the Durell family and refitted in Regency style by the Journeaux family in 1812, with new windows, door casings, a truncated roof and a marble fireplace.

The story
A Georgian townhouse built as a speculation by the Durell family and refitted in Regency style by the Journeaux family in 1812, with new windows, door casings, a truncated roof and a marble fireplace. After Philippe Journeaux went bankrupt in 1850 the house passed to the drapers A. de Gruchy & Co. It was in turn a gentlemen's club, the Jersey YMCA from 1909 to 1964, and a workshop for curtains and blinds until the late 1970s, after which it decayed for twenty years until the parapet gutters failed. Threatened with demolition, it was given to the National Trust for Jersey in 2003, restored with a bequest from Mrs Mollie Houston, and opened in 2011.
