The story
Also known as Millbrook Park, this seafront park was opened in 1937 by Florence, Lady Trent, to mark the coronation of King George VI. Born Florence Rowe above her father's bookshop in St Helier, she married Jesse Boot of Boots the Chemists; the couple retired to Villa Millbrook in 1928, and after his death in 1931 she gave the land around St Matthew's Church to be laid out as a park for the island. Next door stands that church, rebuilt for her with glass by René Lalique. The park's paddling pool dates from the same year, 1937; its replacement water-play area was designed with ideas from more than two hundred local children.
