Freedom Tree

The story
A bronze tree twenty feet high by the sculptor Richard Perry, standing beside Elizabeth Marina with Elizabeth Castle to the south and West Park to the north. It carries thirty oak leaves and twelve acorns, one acorn for each of the island's twelve parishes. It was unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II on the sixtieth anniversary of the Liberation. Unlike the bronze group on Liberation Square, which fixes a single minute in May 1945, this one was made to stand for growth and continuity — acknowledging what the Occupation did to the island while pointing away from it.
