The story
A bronze statue of Queen Victoria, about seven feet high and weighing close to two tons, holding a sceptre in her right hand and a globe in her left. It was modelled by Georges Wallet in Paris and cast there by the Thiébaud foundry, paid for by public subscription to mark the Jubilee of 1887 — £370 for the bronze, with more raised for the granite pedestal designed by the Jersey architect Adolphe Curry. It was unveiled at the Weighbridge on 3 September 1890, removed in January 1970 when the roads there were reorganised, and moved to Triangle Park in March 1976. The pedestal is inscribed in French: Erigé par le peuple.
