Millennium Town Park

The story

The garden for everyone in St Helier who hasn't got one. A field, a playground and two water features on 1.3 hectares in the middle of town: jets that come up out of flat paving with no warning, and a water curtain at the far end that no child walks past dry. Around them, 119 young trees, granite paths level enough for a wheelchair or a buggy, a petanque pitch, a wall for ball practice, and enough grass for the whole neighbourhood to eat lunch on. Café next door, toilets, free Wi-Fi. None of it was here in 2010 — it took a petition of 16,000 islanders and fourteen years of waiting.
