The Devil statue

The story
A horned devil nearly six metres tall stands in the valley leading to Devil's Hole, a collapsed sea cave on the north coast of St Mary. The first statue was carved from a ship's figurehead washed ashore after a wreck in 1851 — which is how the place earned its name. It has been replaced more than once since, but a devil has guarded the path for over a century. From the statue a footpath leads to a viewing platform above the crater, where the sea surges in through a natural tunnel at high water.
