The story
A wide, flat south-coast beach running east from Havre des Pas towards Green Island, where the sea retreats a long way at low water to expose sand and reefs. Victor Hugo, exiled from France, lived at Marine Terrace just above the shore from 1852 to 1855 and walked here daily; the rock at Le Dicq where he sat with fellow exiles carries a plaque. The bay faces the sunrise and gives a clear view of the coast of Normandy on a bright day.
