Mont Ubé Dolmen

The story

Quarrymen reached this tomb before archaeologists did, in 1848, and the capstones were gone by then. A farmer later walled up the passage using three stones already standing in it, and kept pigs in the chamber. What lay behind that wall was bottle-shaped in plan, its edges once divided into four compartments closed by low slabs — only one of those survives. Almost everything we know about the contents came out of the quarrymen's spoil: pottery including a Jersey bowl, vase supports, axes, flint and stone tools, polished pendants, and a grape cup, a vessel form found nowhere outside the Channel Islands.
