The story
A folly on Mont Ubé, built for Philippe Nicolle soon after 1821: a hexagonal projection added to an older rectangular signal box, with an extra storey on both parts and pointed windows in the Gothick style. A signal station had stood on this hill since the 1790s. In June 1942 the German forces added a top floor with observation slits and used it as the forward observation post for Batterie Seeckt. The concrete was poured around the original battlements rather than removing them, and their outlines can still be seen in the north-facing wall. The Landmark Trust acquired the building in 1982 and lets it for short stays.
