The story
A formal public garden on The Parade in St Helier, laid out in the 19th century opposite the General Hospital. At its centre stands the statue of General Don, Lieutenant Governor from 1806 to 1814, who built the island's network of military roads and many of the coastal defences. The gardens also hold Jersey's Boer War memorial and mature trees that make it one of the shadiest spots in town on a hot day.
