Jersey's largest reservoir, opened in 1991 after the whole of Queen's Valley was dammed and flooded — a decision fought over for years, because the valley was one of the island's prettiest and held farms, cottages and orchards.
The story
Jersey's largest reservoir, opened in 1991 after the whole of Queen's Valley was dammed and flooded — a decision fought over for years, because the valley was one of the island's prettiest and held farms, cottages and orchards. One of those farmhouses had a second life on television: it was Jim Bergerac's home in the original series, and it now lies under the water. A gentle path loops the shore for about 2.5 km, past woodland and reed beds, with kingfishers, herons and, in winter, ducks by the hundred. It is the quietest of the Bergerac locations, and the only one you cannot visit — because it isn't there any more.
