Steam Clock
A clock on the waterfront built in 1996, during a scheme to regenerate this end of the harbour, as a full-scale replica of a section of the steamer Ariadne — the old warehouses beside it had just become the Maritime Museum, and the clock was meant to carry the nautical theme outdoors.

The story
A clock on the waterfront built in 1996, during a scheme to regenerate this end of the harbour, as a full-scale replica of a section of the steamer Ariadne — the old warehouses beside it had just become the Maritime Museum, and the clock was meant to carry the nautical theme outdoors. The Guinness Book of Records listed it at the time as the largest steam clock in the world. Parts broke and proved hard to replace, running it on steam was judged uneconomic, and the mechanism was converted to electricity, after which it stopped again. It runs intermittently.
