Howard Davis Park
Given to the island by Thomas Benjamin Frederick Davis, a Jersey-born shipping magnate who made his fortune on the South African docks, in memory of his son Howard Leopold Davis of the Highland Light Infantry, wounded on the Somme and dead of those wounds on 12 August 1916.

The story
Given to the island by Thomas Benjamin Frederick Davis, a Jersey-born shipping magnate who made his fortune on the South African docks, in memory of his son Howard Leopold Davis of the Highland Light Infantry, wounded on the Somme and dead of those wounds on 12 August 1916. Davis bought the Plaisance estate for twenty-five thousand pounds, had the house pulled down, and handed the grounds to the public in 1939. The billiard room survives as the memorial hall, and a statue of King George V stands where the house had been. In one corner lies St Helier War Cemetery, dedicated on 26 November 1943 for Allied dead recovered in the Bailiwick, its forty-one graves marked by oak crosses instead of headstones.
