The story
A square fortified guardhouse and magazine beside St Ouën's Pond, built in the style of a blockhouse with loopholes for musketry, and possibly put up in 1778. Despite the name it is not a tower and it does not belong to Conway's chain of round towers. In front of it stood a paved battery of three 24-pounder guns, and the building played a part in repelling the Prince of Nassau's attempted landing in St Ouën's Bay in 1779. The paving was later buried under shingle. The seaward face was painted white and black to serve as a daymark for shipping. Jersey Heritage has let it as very basic self-catering accommodation since 2007.
