St Ouën's Bay Bunkers

The story

The line of German bunkers and gun positions along the sea wall in St Ouën's Bay. Most were sited to fire along the beach rather than out to sea. Two of Jersey's older coastal towers stood in this bay and neither survived the Occupation: the Conway tower known as St Ouen No. 3, or High Tower, built in 1796, and the Martello tower at L'Etacq of 1832 were both destroyed by the German forces. Others were kept and reused — at Lewis Tower the Germans added a concrete housing at the base for a mobile 3.7 cm anti-tank gun. La Rocco Tower, further out in the bay, was ringed with mines.
