The story

The dunes behind St Ouën's Bay hold three standing stones and a burial chamber. The Ossuary is a rectangular cist grave of the Chalcolithic, excavated in 1923 and partly reconstructed in 1972; it held the disarticulated remains of around twenty people, mostly skulls and long bones, which suggests the bodies were exposed and de-fleshed elsewhere before being brought here. Two decorated Jersey Bowls were found with them. The tomb appears to be contemporary with a settlement in the same dunes.
