The story
The twenty-third and last of Conway's coastal towers, built between 1796 and 1801, and the largest and most heavily armed of them all. Its name comes from Rocque Hou, rocky islet. It was first called Gordon's Tower after the Lieutenant-Governor, a name islanders never accepted. Damaged when German mines laid around it detonated in 1943, it was restored in the 1970s after a public campaign. The tower is surrounded by the sea twice a day and can be reached on foot only at low water.
