Jersey is small enough that its wild corners are all within a bus ride, and varied enough that they are all different: sea cliffs in the north, dunes and a reed-fringed pond in the west, a wooded valley in the east, and — six miles offshore — the Écréhous, a reef of rocks and huts that is only visited by boat.
Durrell’s zoo in Trinity is the one with a ticket; it is also where the island’s conservation story is told. Everything else is open ground. The Écréhous is the legendary card in this set: you will need a boat trip, and a calm day.
