The story
Marine Peilstand 3, on the cliffs at Les Landes, at the north-west corner of the island, beside Battery Moltke. The towers worked by eye, through narrow observation slits. This one is recorded as having carried a Seetakt naval radar as well, which found ships by sending out a radio pulse and timing the echo — a method that works at night and in fog. The tower stands at the north-western approach to the island, the corner facing the open Channel and the routes from England.
