The story
An elliptical Martello tower of 1835 on the dunes of St Ouën's Bay, completed a year after Kempt Tower further along the same bay. Its wall is thicker on the seaward side, and it is wider than it is tall. It carried a single 24-pounder gun, which made it smaller and more lightly armed than Kempt. During the Occupation the Germans added a concrete housing at the base of the tower for a mobile 3.7 cm anti-tank gun and cut a new entrance at ground level. The ground had been defended long before: in 1779 the parish rector brought field guns to this spot, and a battery of three 24-pounders stood here from 1787. Jersey Heritage lets the tower as self-catering accommodation.
