Noirmont Tower (MP1)

The story

Marine Peilstand 1, a German naval observation tower at the seaward end of Noirmont Point. Towers of this pattern were built nowhere else. The Atlantic Wall ran from the Arctic coast of Norway to the border with Spain, and this design belongs only to the Channel Islands. The tower observed for Batterie Lothringen on the same headland, and a bearing taken from here meant nothing on its own: it became a ship's position only when a second tower elsewhere on the coast took a bearing on the same vessel at the same moment. The nearest of the surviving towers is the one above La Corbière.
