The story

A small stone building with a corrugated iron shed beside it, near the footpath above Petit Port on the north coast, in Trinity. On Christmas night 1943 it was the first place searched by six Allied commandos landing in Operation Hardtack 28, the only Allied raid on occupied Jersey. They found it empty. The raid ended in tragedy on the cliff above the beach, when their leader, Captain Philip Ayton, stepped on a mine on the way back. He died later that day.
