The story
A working harbour at the foot of Mont Orgueil, its pier built in the 1820s when the oyster fishery made Gorey one of the busiest ports on the island — hundreds of boats and thousands of workers dredged the beds offshore. The village that grew along the quay is now lined with restaurants and cafés, and boats still moor beneath the castle walls. From the pier the view takes in the whole Royal Bay of Grouville and, on a clear day, the French coast.
