The story
A battery and guardhouse built in the 1780s on the headland above Grève de Lecq, armed with three 32-pounder guns on traversing platforms. Grève de Lecq is one of the few sheltered bays on Jersey's north coast and has always been vulnerable to attack; besides this fort the bay was covered by Middle Battery, Valle du Fort Battery and a round tower. In 1810, with invasion by Napoleon expected, barracks for up to 250 troops were begun at the head of the valley, and the defences here reached their peak. The fort is in the care of the National Trust for Jersey.
