Forts in Jersey
Jersey was fortified against France for six hundred years, and the forts are the middle chapter — after the medieval castles, before the German concrete. Fort Regent crowns the town; St Aubin’s Fort guards the harbour from a rock you can walk to at low water; the smaller forts on the north and east coasts were built in the 18th and 19th centuries to cover the bays a landing party might use.
Most are free to walk up to and around. Several are now let by Jersey Heritage as holiday homes — the walls, the view and the stamp are yours, the inside belongs to whoever is staying that week.
