The story
A reef of rocky islets about 10 km north-east of Jersey, halfway to the coast of Normandy, with a few fishermen's huts on the largest of them and nothing else. The Écréhous belong to Jersey — a ruling of the International Court of Justice confirmed it in 1953 — and are part of the parish of St Martin. Grey seals, dolphins and nesting terns are the residents; visitors come by boat or kayak in calm weather and must leave with the tide.
