The story
Robert of Normandy confirmed the patronage of this church in 1035, which means it was already standing then. Beside it is the Fishermen's Chapel, older still in parts, and holding medieval wall paintings that are among the very few to survive anywhere in the Channel Islands — a fourteenth-century Annunciation at the east end, a Last Judgement at the west. In 1550, during the Reformation, the chapel was converted into an armoury and housed the parish cannon.
