The story
The island's best-known beach: a broad, south-facing sweep of fine sand sheltered from the prevailing wind, with a promenade, gardens and cafés along the front. At its western end stands St Brelade's Parish Church, one of Jersey's oldest, and beside it the tiny Fishermen's Chapel, whose walls carry medieval wall paintings from around the 14th century. The Winston Churchill Memorial Park sits above the middle of the bay. Water is calm enough for families most of the year.
